This M1 Helmet appears to have belonged to Raymond H Carter, Army Serial number 38560155. As per his enlistment record, he joined the Army in the immediate post WW2 period, and served at least until the 1950's.
Steel shell is made by Schleuter (as denoted by the S) and it's steel lot code is 437A, which indicates manufacture in November or December of 1944 during WW2. This is further corroborated by the fact that the shell has swivel chinstrap bales, and a seam on the front of the helmet. Additionally, the shell is free of stress fractures, something very common to earlier production shells. Shell appears to retain its original factory paint on the inside, having been repainted on the inside.
Liner is dated 1951, and is made by Westinghouse. Additionally, the helmet liner has a CW2 pin attached to the front. I do not know if this was the rank of Mr. Raymond H Carter, or indicative of a later reissue of the liner. All webbing in the liner is OD#7, and it is complete. Leather sweat band and nape pad are also present.
The helmet has its leather chin strap, but it is unfortunately broken. All broken pieces are still included.
The helmet chinstrap is looped around the back of the helmet, and there is some corrosion underneath the chinstrap. This could be cleaned up or left as is.
This helmet would look great in a WW2 or Korean War Era American helmet collection.
